What

With its project partners, the Independence Historical Trust has developed a physical blueprint for the City’s historical area. This Vision Framework was intended to be a starting point from which additional stakeholders, new perspectives, and revolutionary ideas can contribute to connecting and further activating historical Philadelphia. With an appetite for incorporating new strategies, the Vision Framework presumes one set of constant foundational elements to include collaboration amongst two or more historically oriented organizations, a shift within the area from vehicular to pedestrian centricity and investments to acknowledge the role of underserved communities in the founding and growth of our country.

Bill Marrazzo

Before joining WHYY in November 1997 as its Chief Executive Officer, Bill’s career included senior executive roles in both the environmental and water industries. All have been important quality of life opportunities for Bill. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Roy F. Weston, Inc., then a leading publicly traded environmental engineering company, Bill’s role enabled him to support the nation’s effort to remediate Superfund sites and develop one of the earliest multi-disciplinary practices supporting sustainability planning. Prior to his role at Roy F. Weston, Inc., Bill held the position of Water Commissioner at the City of Philadelphia Water Department, and for a time, the City’s Managing Director. As Commissioner, Bill’s contributions resulted in a massive regional program to restore the Philadelphia region’s water system to a fishable and swimmable status. His service at WHYY has resulted in the growth of its general audience, positioning it as one of the most financially stable non-commercial media enterprises in the nation.

 

By choice, Bill and his family have made their home in the City of Philadelphia. They have a lifelong commitment to civic affairs. In addition to other roles, Bill currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Independence National Historical Trust, working with other historical oriented enterprises to deepen the sense of pride for our City’s historical assets. 

Michael Carroll

As Deputy Managing Director for Philadelphia’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (oTIS), Michael A. Carroll, P.E. is a creative and nationally respected leader with more than 25 years of experience in transportation. In this role, Carroll leads oTIS staff in developing strategies and implementing policies to build a safe and equitable multi-modal systems across Philadelphia’s diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.

 

Deputy Carroll coordinates and sets the policy direction for critical functions, including the Streets Department (both Transportation and Sanitation), the Philadelphia Water Department, as well as the newly created Office of Complete Streets.  His oversight includes infrastructure systems that are made up of more than 9,500 transit stops, 2,575 miles of street, 320 bridge structures, 450 lanes miles of bike facilities, 1,000 Indego bikes and 100 Indego stations, and 6,500 miles of sewers and water mains.  Deputy Carroll also coordinates with internal city departments, external agencies such as SEPTA, PennDOT, Amtrak, and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, as well as with policy makers on the local, state, and national levels.

 

Deputy Carroll graduated with a Bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Cornell University and proceeded to earn Master’s degrees in Transportation Engineering and Transportation Planning from the University of Berkeley. He currently serves as the President of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO).

Eric Galipo

Eric Galipo is a principal at FCA. As their Director of Strategic Planning and Design, Eric’s background as an analytical chemist deeply informs his practice. In managing a project’s planning and conceptual design, Eric thinks through the multitude of moving parts, identifying constraints and opportunities, establishing parameters, and developing innovative and aesthetic design and planning solutions.

Job Itzkowitz

Job Itzkowitz currently serves as the Executive Director of the Old City District, overseeing its day-to-day operations including clean and safe, marketing, and economic development initiatives in Old City, Philadelphia. Before his current role, Job served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Policy and Legislation in Philadelphia City Council, where he engaged in matters pertaining to legislation, policy, zoning, and development. Prior to his tenure at City Hall, he practiced as an attorney at Ballard Spahr for eight years, focusing on complex commercial litigation and government relations. Job is actively engaged in the civic arena, having co-founded Young Involved Philadelphia and Philadelphia250.
